Admittedly, I am a week or two behind in getting Top fives posted in written form, so if you see these back to back, thank you, and i’m sorry. This week for our draft the Mavericks were almost swept in the NBA Finals, and that got us thinking. What are some good sweeps. Well, here are our favorite.

Top Sweeps

Alex’s Top Five:

  1. 2004 World Series Red Sox over Cardinals: Coming into the playoffs, the Cardinals were one of the best teams in baseball, and the Red Sox were the big underdogs. The Yankees led the series 3-0, and not only did the Red Sox win 4 games in a row to beat the Yankees, they swept the Cardinals winning 8 games in a row to win the World Series. What a Sweep!
  2. 2007 NBA Finals Spurs over Cavaliers: As a notable Lebron James hater, this finals did good things for me. Not only did the Spurs sweep the Cavs, but they held the Cavs to under 85ppg in 3 of the 4, and kept a young Lebron in check on defense. Tim Duncan won MVP, and further cemented his legacy as one of basketballs greats.
  3. 1991 Conference Finals Bulls over Pistons: The Bad Boys were beating up on a lot of early incredible hoopers. They were two time defending champs with a chip on their shoulder, and rightfully so. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and the gang hung a sweep so bad the Pistons wouldn’t even shake a hand after the final game.
  4. 2003 Oscars Lord of the Rings Return of the King: Sweeping the Oscars in 2003 LoTR Return of the King won all 11 of the Oscars it was nominated for. Best Picture, Director, Music, etc This movie, and trilogy still holds up to todays standards for CGI and the likes.
  5. Franklin D. Roosevelt: The only President to have 4 terms, generally liked by many. He served from 1933 to 1945 when he died. He was the only President to serve, and they changed the rules after his death.

Christian’s Top Five:

  1. Khabib Nurmagomedov: UFC great, potential goat. Khabib went out on top, never losing a match. He went a perfect 29-0 to finish his career vowing never to fight again following his fathers death in 2021. Throughout his career, the fighter may have lost a round or two total. Just a glimpse of his dominance.
  2. Brooms: The ultimate sweeper, brooms are what the term sweep was created for. Sisters dance with them at weddings, they sweep up trash, and witches ride them.
  3. Sweepstakes: If you’re alive, you’ve probably heard of sweepstakes. Multiple styles, types, and ways, to win, but often you have to fill out a form then get surprised after you’ve long forgotten you’ve entered into it at all. Publshers Clearing House is probably the most notable that we can think of.
  4. Leg Sweep: A common jiu-jitsu technique learned at the beginning stages, but never forgotten. Just recently Islam Makhachev used a leg sweep as the final takedown to get the back of Dustin Poirier to retain his UFC Gold.
  5. 1963 World Series Dodgers over Yankees: Marking the 60th World Series, and still the only official winning Dodgers World Series at home, in 1963 the Dodgers swept the Yankees 4-0. They were able to take down Yobi Bera, and Mickey Mantle to claim their only home World Series.
