Who’s Next? Asu Almabayev vs Matheus Nicolau
Asu Almabayev scored his 16th straight victory on Satruday at UFC Vegas 93. He faced the 6 foot tall UFC newcomer in Jose Johnson. Given Johnson’s MMA background, and his desirable length in comparison to Almabayev, he stood just as good a chance as any to finally stop the man from Kazakhstans win streak. Asu Almabayev was not threatened by Johnsons tactics and was able to dominate the outing scoring 30-27 on all the judges scoredcards. With this victory, Almabayev is 3-0 in the UFC, and like i’ve stated previously, he’s now 16-0. With dominant wreslting, and the ability to outstrike a longer opponent, who’s next for Asu Almabayev.
A dominating fighter like Almabayev needs a test next. He needs someone that can wrestle well, but someone who can also strike with the best in the division. Our answer, Matheus Nicolau. Nicolau is currently ranked 10th in the UFC Flyweight division, and started his UFC tenure 4-0 taking out, Manel Kape, Tim Elliott, Matt Schnell, and David Dvorak in that time. Recently he’s lost to Alex Perez and Brandon Royval, both by KO. Matheus Nicolau is a well rounded fighter who rose to the top of the division when it was at its slimmest. Now, solidly ranked at 10th, it’s his turn to give an up and comer a chance climb the ladder.
