The 2024 NFL Draft is underway, and it only fees right to talk NFL Draft Busts as our top five this week. Busts are simply picks that don’t live up to the hype that are supposed to be highly picked in the draft. They can be bust for many reasons, like not being able to adjust, injuries, or personal choices. Check out the video below to hear our top NFL draft busts.

Top NFL Draft Busts

Alex’s Top Five:

  1. Ryan Leaf: 2nd overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. Played 10 games his rookie year, 2 touchdowns, 15 interceptions. (Peyton Manning drafted 1st overall this year) 25 game career due to injuries. Has been to prison.
  2. Brian Bosworth: Picked in the 1987 supplemental draft due to eligibility issues. Won 2 Butkus awards in college, 2015 College Football Hall of Fame. Forced to retire due to injury.
  3. Steve Emtman: 1st overall pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. Placed 4th in heisman voting. Missed 30 games over 5 seasons. 1994 season refused a pay cut and was release by Colts.
  4. Russell Erxleben: 11th overall pick in the 1979 NFL Draft. Highest drafted punter ever, was supposed to be the punter and kicker, but couldn’t win the starting job. (Kellen Winslow was drafted 13th this draft) Only played 5 seasons.
  5. Josh Rosen: 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. (Kyler Murray drafted 1st overall in 2019 NFL Draft) 13 starts, still in the league, all shaky performances.

Christian’s Top Five:

  1. JaMarcus Russell: 1st overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Infamous Blank DVD story. 3 years in the league poor performance and lack of preperation.
  2. Johnny Manziel: 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Freshman heisman trophy winner. Lack of preperation and off the field battles. Only 13 starts.
  3. Trey Lance: 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. (Brock Purdy drafted last pick 2022 NFL Draft) Current backup for the Cowboys. Only has 102 pass attempts in the league. To move up nine spots, the 49ers sent three first-round picks to Miami (2021, 2022, 2023) along with a 2022 third-round pick.
  4. Zach Wilson: 2nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson was tauted to be the “Aaron Rodgers.” 34 games played for the Jets, and now traded to the Broncos. (Drafted Bo Nix)
  5. Trent Richardson: 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. 3.3ypc for his career. Couldn’t run into open holes. Lasted 3 years in the league.
